After more than 15 years in music, Smiley Miami is turning a career built behind the decks into a larger platform spanning event production, entrepreneurship, authorship and youth mentorship.

For more than 15 years, Smiley Miami has built his name behind the DJ booth.
But somewhere along the way, the name started to mean more than music.
“I think it happened when I realized people weren’t just booking me to play music anymore,” Smiley says. “They were booking Smiley Miami because of what the name represented.”
What began as a DJ career gradually became something larger, built around relationships, entertainment, community and creating memorable experiences.
“That’s when I realized I could take everything I’d learned as a DJ and build something bigger.”
Today, Smiley Miami has become an umbrella for several parts of his life and career. That includes Smiley Events, his event production company, and Smiley Ballers, his nonprofit youth basketball program.
The evolution didn’t happen overnight.
Throughout his career, Smiley has found himself in rooms and opportunities that once may have seemed far removed from the clubs where many DJs begin.
He has DJed for the Florida Panthers, worked in radio with 95.7 FM, performed alongside the Black Eyed Peas, traveled to Dubai with Jason Derulo, and had the opportunity to DJ for Madonna.
Those experiences expanded his understanding of what a career in entertainment could become.
“The Florida Panthers was definitely an important chapter because it helped me see that DJing could take me far beyond clubs and nightlife,” he says. “It could take me into professional sports, corporate events, major productions and opportunities I probably never imagined when I first started.”
But Smiley says access alone has never been enough.
“Getting into the room is only the beginning. What you do once you’re in that room, and the relationships you build, is what creates the next opportunity.”
The Part People Don’t See
Social media often shows the finished product.
The events. The celebrities. The travel. The DJ booths. The accomplishments.
Smiley says what people rarely see are the years required to reach those moments.
“They don’t see the times the phone wasn’t ringing. They don’t see getting told no, losing opportunities, not getting paid for work you’ve already done, or having to start over and reinvent yourself.”
Those setbacks became part of his development.
“I’ve had great moments, but I’ve also had moments where I had to look at myself and figure out what was next.”
One lesson continues to guide him.
“Don’t be afraid to reinvent yourself.”
DJing opened the door, but Smiley eventually realized the skills he developed through music could be applied to something much larger.
That realization helped push him deeper into event production and toward building businesses and programs capable of operating beyond his individual performances.
“Every setback taught me something that I’m using today.”
Miami Is More Than Part of the Name
Miami isn’t simply where Smiley works.
It is embedded directly into his identity.
“Miami is a huge part of who I am. It’s literally in my name, Smiley Miami.”
Growing up professionally in a city shaped by different cultures, languages, musical influences and personalities taught him one of the most important skills in entertainment: understanding people.
“Miami taught me how to connect with everybody.”
As a DJ, that meant learning how to read a room.
As an event producer, the same instinct now influences how he thinks about an entire experience.
“With Smiley Events, I don’t want to just put on an event. I want to create an experience.”
His vision extends from sound and entertainment to lighting, visuals, atmosphere and everything a guest experiences from the moment they arrive.
“Miami has a certain energy and a certain standard. People want something memorable.”
Building Smiley Events
Smiley’s next chapter centers heavily on expanding Smiley Events into a full-service event production and entertainment company.
The goal is to become a resource capable of taking a concept and developing the complete experience around it.
That means helping clients bring together venues, staging, sound, lighting, LED walls, entertainment, branding and production under one vision.
“I’m growing Smiley Events into a full-service event production and entertainment company where we can take somebody’s vision and bring the entire thing to life.”
It’s a natural progression for someone who has spent years watching events from one of the most important positions in the room.
From behind the DJ booth, Smiley learned firsthand what captures an audience, what changes the energy of a room and what separates an ordinary event from a memorable one.
Now he is applying those lessons to the entire production.
A Legacy Bigger Than Entertainment
But the future Smiley is building isn’t limited to business.
One of the projects he speaks about most personally is Smiley Ballers, his nonprofit youth basketball program.
“That’s personal to me because it’s bigger than basketball.”
Through the program, Smiley wants young people to learn discipline, accountability, teamwork, confidence and the value of working toward something.
“If basketball helps me reach a kid and positively impact his future, that’s bigger than any event I’ve ever DJed.”
Education has become another piece of that legacy.
Smiley has also written The Blueprint to Making Money as a DJ, sharing lessons from his career with DJs who may understand the creative side of their talent but still need to learn the business behind it.
“I want to pass down some of the knowledge I’ve gained throughout my career and help other DJs understand the business side of their talent.”
After more than 15 years, the DJ booth remains part of Smiley Miami’s story.
It just isn’t the entire story anymore.
“At this point in my life, I’m building toward legacy.”
And when he thinks about how he ultimately wants his career to be remembered, Smiley’s definition of success reaches far beyond music.
“I don’t want people to say, ‘Smiley was a great DJ.’”
“I want them to say, ‘Smiley built something. He created opportunities. He brought people together. He gave back. And he helped the next generation.’”
